ISIS militants have claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on a police checkpoint in Tripoli, news agency Reuters reports.
Security spokesman, Essam Nas said a bag of explosives had gone off at a checkpoint next to a Janzour security building, a Tripoli suburb, wounding 5 policemen.
Afterwards, Islamic State militants published on social media a picture of what they said was the site of the explosion.
Reports
also state that a car bomb had also exploded in front of a camp of a
faction called 166 battalion, a force tasked with fighting Islamic State
militants at Misrata. 1 person was killed in this attack.
Militants
loyal to Islamic State have been exploiting chaos in Libya where two
governments allied to armed factions are vying for power 4 years after
the overthrow of former slain leader, Muammar Gaddafi.
Groups
of Islamist militants, who have declared loyalty to Islamic State over
the past 6 months, have claimed responsibility for several high-profile
attacks including an attack in January on the Corinthia luxury hotel in Tripoli where 5 foreigners were killed, in what appears to be an intensifying campaign.
