Police Rescue Kidnapped Zamfara Emir

The Emir of Bukkuyum, in Zamfara State, Alhaji Muhammadu Usman, who was abducted from his palace by some gunmen last week Friday has regained freedom.

His release follows days of massive manhunt of his whereabouts by security agencies across the state.
The Zamafara State Police Commissioner, Mr Femi Ogunbayode, who confirmed the release of the 60-year old traditional ruler to our correspondent, said the Emir was rescued by the police at Gajazema Village, a border town between Zamfara and Kebbi States in the early hours of Wednesday.
He further explained that his men intercepted the kidnappers at the border community around 1AM this morning as they were about crossing over to Kebbi State.
Mr Ogunbayode, who noted that the kidnappers fled into the bush on siting the police, added that no arrest has been made.
While stating that the Emir is hale and hearty at the time he was rescued, the police commissioner also explained that no ransom was paid for his release.
The Emir, who had been on the throne for 14 years, was abducted by unknown gunmen around 8PM last Friday while he was praying inside a mosque opposite his house.
