Court orders NCC, telecoms to pay N500million to APC.

A court in Lagos has ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and five telecommunications companies to pay a sum of N500 million to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for unlawful shutting down its campaign fund-raising platform.

Other defendants in the case are Etisalat, MTN Nigeria Limited, Globacom Limited, Airtel Nigeria Limited and Visafone Communications Limited.

Federal High Court judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba gave the judgment on Tuesday, March 24.

Justice Buba in reaching his decision, ruled that the shutting down of the platform was unlawful and constituted an infringement on the party’s fundamental right.

The APC had sought damages of N25 billion when instituting the case but received N500 million instead.
